Review: Stars

Stars
September 24th, 2010
Terminal 5, Upper West Side

Their name alone evokes thoughts of harmony, dazzling beauty, and elegance. All adjectives that could just as easily describe the sounds heard and visuals seen at a Stars show. Vocalist and guitarist Amy Millan said to the crowd “A lot of people fall in love to Stars,” while sitting in front of the drum-set between songs. For any other band to say this, it would sound concieted, but for Millan and Stars, it seems very true. Love was all around in the atmosphere tonight at Terminal 5, along with rose petals, bubbles, and champagne.

Review: The Boxer Rebellion

The Boxer Rebellion
September 23rd, 2010
Bowery Ballroom, Lower East Side

The ones that are so effortlessly skilled, live and on CD, but for some reason aren’t on top. All I can hope for The Boxer Rebellion is that they soon will be on top. After their recent cameo in hollywood’s big new romantic comedy Going The Distance, there seems to be a huge buzz about them and their flawless performances in the film. While it is a huge deal for the group to have received the Drew Barrymore indie rock seal of approval, these guys don’t even need it.
